Year 8 Math
Extend Stage 4 maths with ratios, indices and Pythagoras across the NSW NESA syllabus — building the fluency Year 9 and beyond rely on, in small Blacktown classes.
What we cover
Aligned to the NSW NESA Stage 4 Mathematics syllabus. Year 8 extends algebra and introduces Pythagoras and proportional reasoning — the fluency Year 9 depends on.
Ratios & rates
Working with ratios, rates and proportional reasoning in real contexts.
Indices
Index laws, and working with powers and scientific notation.
Pythagoras' theorem
Using Pythagoras' theorem to solve right-angled triangle problems.
Area & volume
Area of composite shapes and the volume of prisms and cylinders.
Properties of geometrical figures
Angle relationships, congruence and reasoning with geometric proofs.
Data analysis & probability
Measures of centre and spread, and calculating probabilities.
Taught by someone who's done it.

Meet the whole teamEvery class follows the same structure.
Based on cognitive science — it minimises load and builds durable understanding and exam confidence.
Class review
Rapid retrieval practice of past concepts — active recall to beat the forgetting curve.
Explicit instruction
Theory broken into the smallest parts, taught in simple, consistent language.
Guided practice
Worked examples together, tutor scaffolding fading as competence grows.
Independent practice
Exam-style questions with instant feedback, so errors are caught before they stick.
Exit test
A short end-of-class check on retention; targeted homework where needed.
Homework
Weekly consolidation that moves class learning into long-term memory.

Common questions
My child is starting to fall behind — can you catch them up?
Yes. We start with a quick check of the Stage 4 foundations, fill any gaps, then keep pace with class content so confidence and marks recover together.
Pythagoras' theorem trips my child up — is that fixable?
Yes — most students who struggle with Pythagoras are missing a step in identifying which side is the hypotenuse, or making errors in the algebra. Both are quick to fix with targeted practice.
How does Year 8 maths connect to the senior courses?
The algebra, geometry and data skills built in Year 8 underpin Stage 5 content in Years 9 and 10, which in turn determines what senior Mathematics course a student can access. Getting Year 8 solid keeps options open.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept small — between 1 and 5 students — so every student gets personal attention and their questions actually get answered each lesson. Prefer one-on-one? Private 1:1 sessions are available on request.
Can I try a class before enrolling?
Yes. Your first trial class is completely free, with no payment details required. If it's not the right fit, there's no obligation.
Where are classes held?
In person at our Blacktown centre on Main Street — easily reached from Seven Hills, Quakers Hill, Woodcroft, Marayong, Kings Langley, Doonside, Lalor Park and Rooty Hill.
