Reading fluency & comprehension
Reading independently with accuracy and expression, and comprehending texts by monitoring understanding (NESA outcomes EN2-REFLU-01, EN2-RECOM-01).
Vocabulary
Building and using everyday and subject-specific vocabulary through wide reading and writing (EN2-VOCAB-01).
Creating written texts
Planning, writing and revising imaginative, informative and persuasive texts with clear structure (EN2-CWT-01, EN2-CWT-02, EN2-CWT-03).
Spelling & handwriting
Applying phonological, orthographic and morphological spelling strategies and writing legible joined letters (EN2-SPELL-01, EN2-HANDW-01).
Responding to literature
Identifying and describing how ideas are represented in the texts they read (EN2-UARL-01).
Oral language & communication
Communicating with familiar audiences by interacting, understanding and presenting ideas (EN2-OLC-01).

How do you help with writing at this age?
We teach a clear plan-write-edit process and give specific, encouraging feedback on each piece, so writing becomes a structured routine rather than a blank-page struggle — across imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, exactly as the Stage 2 syllabus sets out.
My child can decode words but does not always understand what they read — can you help?
Yes. Fluent decoding and true comprehension are different skills, and Year 3 is the right time to build the second. We teach students to monitor their own understanding and use text structure to make meaning, not just read the words aloud.
Do you still work on spelling and handwriting in Year 3?
We do — both are explicit Stage 2 outcomes. We build spelling through sound, letter-pattern and word-part strategies rather than rote lists, and support the legible joined handwriting that makes longer writing tasks much easier.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept small — between 1 and 5 students — so every student gets personal attention and their questions actually get answered each lesson. Prefer one-on-one? Private 1:1 sessions are available on request.
