What we cover
Aligned to the NSW NESA Stage 2 Mathematics syllabus. Year 3 is the start of Stage 2 — where multiplication tables, fractions and written strategies are first introduced. We make sure these foundations are genuinely secure before Year 4 builds on them.
Place value
Reading, writing, ordering and partitioning numbers using place value and the role of zero (NESA outcome MA2-RN-01).
Addition & subtraction
Mental and written strategies for 2- and 3-digit addition and subtraction, and finding missing values (MA2-AR-01, MA2-AR-02).
Multiplication & division
Building the multiplicative structure to 10 × 10 and using it to solve problems (MA2-MR-01, MA2-MR-02).
Fractions
Representing and comparing halves, quarters, thirds and fifths as lengths on a number line (MA2-PF-01).
Length, angles & shape
Measuring length in metres, centimetres and millimetres, classifying angles against a right angle, and describing 2D shapes (MA2-GM-02, MA2-GM-03, MA2-2DS-01).
Data & chance
Collecting discrete data and constructing graphs, and recording the results of chance experiments (MA2-DATA-01, MA2-CHAN-01).

Common questions
My child is just starting times tables — can you help them get on top of it?
Yes. Year 3 is where multiplication is introduced, and it is the single most important fluency to lock in. We use short, regular retrieval practice so the facts become automatic, which makes division and fractions far easier down the track.
Is Year 3 too early for tutoring?
Not at all — Year 3 is the start of NESA Stage 2, where the pace steps up with multiplication, fractions and longer written methods. Building strong habits and confidence now prevents the small gaps that become big ones by Year 5 and 6.
How do you keep maths fun and low-pressure for a Year 3 child?
We use hands-on examples — measuring, sharing, grouping — that give abstract number ideas a concrete meaning, and keep classes small so questions are welcomed rather than rushed. The goal at this age is that maths feels doable, not stressful.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept small — between 1 and 5 students — so every student gets personal attention and their questions actually get answered each lesson. Prefer one-on-one? Private 1:1 sessions are available on request.
