Year 5 English
Develop analytical reading and confident writing across the NSW NESA Stage 3 English syllabus — with selective-style comprehension built in, in small Blacktown classes.
What we cover
Aligned to the NSW NESA Stage 3 English syllabus. Year 5 moves from understanding texts to analysing them — and we build the comprehension skills selective tests reward.

Responding to literature
Analysing themes, characters and the author's language choices.

Based on cognitive science — it minimises load and builds durable understanding and exam confidence.

Common questions
Is this useful for the selective test?
Very. The reading comprehension and writing we teach at Stage 3 is exactly the skill set the selective test assesses — we just add timed, exam-style practice as your child is ready.
My child can read well but struggles to write — is that common?
Very common. Reading and writing are related but different skills, and many confident readers have never been taught a reliable writing process. We focus on planning structures and paragraph organisation specifically.
Do you cover NAPLAN-style skills in Year 5 English?
Yes — the comprehension, grammar and writing skills we build align closely with NAPLAN assessment. We do not teach to the test specifically, but strong Year 5 English skills produce strong NAPLAN results naturally.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept small — between 1 and 5 students — so every student gets personal attention and their questions actually get answered each lesson. Prefer one-on-one? Private 1:1 sessions are available on request.
Can I try a class before enrolling?
Yes. Your first trial class is completely free, with no payment details required. If it's not the right fit, there's no obligation.
Where are classes held?
In person at our Blacktown centre on Main Street — easily reached from Seven Hills, Quakers Hill, Woodcroft, Marayong, Kings Langley, Doonside, Lalor Park and Rooty Hill.
