Year 5 Math
Strengthen number, fractions and reasoning across the NSW NESA Stage 3 Mathematics syllabus — with selective-style problem solving woven in, in small Blacktown classes.
What we cover
Aligned to the NSW NESA Stage 3 Mathematics syllabus. Year 5 deepens fractions, decimals and multiplicative thinking — and we layer in selective-style problem solving for students aiming higher.
Place value & whole numbers
Working beyond a million, and understanding factors, multiples and place value.
Addition & subtraction
Efficient written and mental strategies for large numbers and decimals.
Multiplication & division
Multiplying and dividing by one- and two-digit numbers, with the order of operations.
Fractions, decimals & percentages
Comparing and operating with fractions and decimals, and linking them to percentages.
Measurement & geometry
Length, area, volume and angles, and the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
Data & chance
Interpreting data displays and describing chance using fractions.
Taught by someone who's done it.

Rapid retrieval practice of past concepts — active recall to beat the forgetting curve.
Explicit instruction
Theory broken into the smallest parts, taught in simple, consistent language.
Guided practice
Worked examples together, tutor scaffolding fading as competence grows.
Independent practice
Exam-style questions with instant feedback, so errors are caught before they stick.

Common questions
Do you prepare students for selective and OC tests?
Yes — alongside the Stage 3 syllabus we build the speed and reasoning that selective and OC-style problems demand, at a pace that suits your child.
How do you help students who find fractions and decimals confusing?
We connect fractions and decimals visually before moving to operations — students need to see that 0.5 and ½ are the same thing before they can calculate confidently. This conceptual step is often missed at school and makes a big difference.
Is the maths content in Year 5 different from Year 4?
Yes — Stage 3 introduces larger numbers, proper fractions and percentages, and a higher level of reasoning about patterns. We bridge from what students already know rather than starting from scratch.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept small — between 1 and 5 students — so every student gets personal attention and their questions actually get answered each lesson. Prefer one-on-one? Private 1:1 sessions are available on request.
Can I try a class before enrolling?
Yes. Your first trial class is completely free, with no payment details required. If it's not the right fit, there's no obligation.
Where are classes held?
In person at our Blacktown centre on Main Street — easily reached from Seven Hills, Quakers Hill, Woodcroft, Marayong, Kings Langley, Doonside, Lalor Park and Rooty Hill.
