Year 9 Math
Take on Stage 5 maths — algebra, linear and non-linear relationships and trigonometry — across the NSW NESA syllabus, building toward senior pathways, in small Blacktown classes.
What we cover
Aligned to the NSW NESA Stage 5 Mathematics syllabus. Year 9 is where the senior pathway starts to diverge — strong algebra and trigonometry here open up Advanced and Extension later.
Financial mathematics
Earning money, simple and compound interest and everyday financial maths.
Algebraic techniques & indices
Expanding, factorising and applying index laws to algebraic expressions.
Equations & linear relationships
Solving equations and inequalities and graphing linear relationships.
Non-linear relationships
Introducing parabolas and other non-linear graphs.
Trigonometry
Using trigonometric ratios to solve right-angled triangle problems.
Data analysis & probability
Comparing data sets and calculating probabilities for multi-step events.
Taught by someone who's done it.

Based on cognitive science — it minimises load and builds durable understanding and exam confidence.
Class review
Rapid retrieval practice of past concepts — active recall to beat the forgetting curve.
Explicit instruction
Theory broken into the smallest parts, taught in simple, consistent language.
Guided practice
Worked examples together, tutor scaffolding fading as competence grows.
Independent practice
Exam-style questions with instant feedback, so errors are caught before they stick.
Exit test
A short end-of-class check on retention; targeted homework where needed.

Common questions
Which senior maths course should my child aim for?
Year 9 is a good time to decide. We can advise after seeing your child work — strong Stage 5 algebra and trigonometry keep Advanced and Extension 1 firmly on the table.
My child wants to do Mathematics Advanced in Year 11 — what does Year 9 need to look like?
Strong Stage 5 algebra, trigonometry and non-linear relationships are the core. We identify any gaps early and fill them so Year 10 and Year 11 content is not a constant struggle.
How does trigonometry introduced in Year 9 connect to senior maths?
Year 9 introduces the sine, cosine and tangent ratios — these are the building blocks for Year 10 bearings, Year 11 radian measure and Year 12 integration. A solid start here pays dividends all the way through.
How big are the classes?
Classes are kept small — between 1 and 5 students — so every student gets personal attention and their questions actually get answered each lesson. Prefer one-on-one? Private 1:1 sessions are available on request.
Can I try a class before enrolling?
Yes. Your first trial class is completely free, with no payment details required. If it's not the right fit, there's no obligation.
Where are classes held?
In person at our Blacktown centre on Main Street — easily reached from Seven Hills, Quakers Hill, Woodcroft, Marayong, Kings Langley, Doonside, Lalor Park and Rooty Hill.
